Difference between Inconel 800 and Incoloy 800

What Is The Difference Between Inconel 800 And Incoloy 800

The incoloy 800 has 30-35% nickel, 19-23% chromium and other substances including carbon, aluminium, titanium, and up to 39% iron. The inconel 800 has a comparable make-up. Manganese, silicon, copper, aluminium, titanium, carbon, and sulphur are all included in the materials. These materials are well able to withstand the processes of oxidation and carburization. At moderate temperatures, these are resistant.
When heated, Inconel produces an oxide layer that is stable.

As a result, they can eventually become age-hardened and have a high resistance to oxidation. Because of the patina formation after prolonged usage, Inconel becomes corrosion resistant on the surface. Incoloy materials are more affordable than Inconel goods and have a higher iron content. Additionally, they are immune to the corrosion of several substances, including steam and acids. These materials can withstand conditions that contain brine, sour gas, and seawater. One of the key elements that contributes to the usage of incoloy grades in many industrial applications is their resistance to chloride ion corrosion.

Inconel 800 Vs Incoloy 800

High heat applications and applications requiring food-grade materials both use Inconel materials. Superalloys based on nickel are known by the registered brands Incoloy and Inconel. These have various uses and were made by the Special Metals Corporation. Nickel-chromium alloys with a high level of oxidation resistance are known as Inconel. The incoloy material, which is primarily nickel-based, can also function at high temperatures. Their ability to resist corrosion is primarily against concentrated acids like sulfuric acid. As a result, the incoloy material could be employed in chemical applications and factories that produce acids. The mechanical characteristics of the various materials vary as well.

At room temperature, Inconel 800 has a minimum yield strength of 150 MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 536 MPa. Incoloy 800 has a minimum yield strength of 275MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 600MPa. Because incoloy is more robust than icnonel, it may be employed in applications requiring great strength. For incoloy, the elongation at break is 45 percent. Incoloy 800 has a high density of 7.94 grammes per cubic centimetre. Depending on the grades, these materials may have additions of molybdenum, copper, silicon, and nitrogen in variable amounts.

The production of bars, rods, pipes, tubes, flanges, fittings, and other kinds of products for use in various applications uses both of these materials. Given that the proper filler material is utilised, these can be welded using the majority of typical welding techniques. The excellent ductility makes the forming operations simple to complete. These materials can be heated or cooled and worked on using common tools. To increase their hardness, they can be heat treated and annealed. Sheathing, heating elements, nuclear steam tubes, heat exchangers, boilers, super heaters, and carburizing equipment can also be used.
