Alloys of stainless steel with the letters PH in their names are precipitation-hardened alloys. A precipitation hardening or PH stainless steel alloy, such 15-5 Ph Rod, is typically known to have strong corrosion resistance. It is common practise to heat treat PH alloys to enhance their tensile strengths, which can vary from 850 MPa to 1700 MPa, and yield strengths, which can range from 520 MPA to more than 1500 MPa.
The tensile strength of the UNS S15500 Square and Cold Finished Bar will vary according on the heat treatment used. The AMS 5659 15-5PH Bright/ Flat Bar, however, would exhibit tensile strength as high as in the range of 792 MPa - 1310 MPa due to the tensile strength values for each heat treatment applied to the alloy. The DIN 1.4545 Hex Bars are utilised in industries like oil and gas, nuclear, and aerospace because PH alloy has qualities like high strength and corrosion resistance.
The name of this alloy derives from both the type of alloy it is and the addition of 15% Chromium and 5% Nickel to the 15-5ph Stainless Steel Round Bar. It is also feasible to process the 15-5 PH Round Bar utilising any heat conditions appropriate for this grade, including the following treatments: H900, H925, H1025, H1075, H1100, H1150, Double H1150, & H1150M.
