Although austenitic stainless steels are among the most popular and versatile alloys, the Duplex family of stainless steels outperforms them in terms of corrosion resistance. Due to their superior corrosion resistance compared to austenitic varieties, all manufacturers of Duplex Round Bar advise utilising these alloys. First off, the ASTM A276 Type 2205 Duplex Rod has a duplex microstructure, giving it access to both austenitic and ferritic stainless steel characteristics.
As a result, the Duplex Stainless Steel Round Bar has much better corrosion resistance qualities. This grade is improved by the inclusion of nitrogen, which increases the alloy's resistance to pitting. In actuality, the PREN value of a Duplex 2205 Hex Bar is lower than that of a common stainless steel grade like alloy 304 or even alloy 316. The PREN number represents the degree of resistance an alloy has to an issue like pitting. The ASTM A479 Duplex Rod is most often utilised in environments with greater amounts of chlorine ion since pitting is a problem that frequently develops in those settings.
Additionally, the alloy's resistance to both saltwater and caustic solutions makes the Duplex 2205 Round Bar an ideal addition for maritime engineering applications. Some applications contain higher amounts of hydrochloric acid and other chlorine-based chemicals, which degrade any standard steel grade. But chemical processing units that use hydrofluoric acid, sulfuric acid, etc. benefit from the qualities that this alloy lends when using duplex square bar. Even though the alloy has a high nickel concentration, using Duplex Flat Bar above 600° F is not advised.
